1. Britannia Adelphi Hotel, Liverpool, England

The Britannia Adelphi Hotel first opened its doors to guests back in 1914, and is supposedly rife with paranormal activity. The historic hotel, which regularly welcomed Charles Dickens, offers 402 en-suite rooms, many of which are believed to be haunted.
The hotel offers many ghostly characters, such as the bell boy who sadly died when he was caught between floors in an old lift in 1960. Many guests have reportedly felt icy cold when in a lift and felt as if they were not alone.
Many guests have also witnessed a young lady with black hair and weird eyes sitting at the end of their beds, staring at them as they sleep. She can also be quite affectionate with male guests, as she has been known to stroke their hair, waking them in the early hours of the morning.
There is also the rather colourful character of the ghost named George, who has been known to stand on the third or fourth floor, shouting down to pedestrians on Brownlow Hill. He is believed to have once been a guest at the Britannia Adelphi Hotel in Liverpool, who either fell, jumped or was pushed out of the hotel window in the 1920s, and has occasionally been spotted by guests.
In fact, author Tom Slemen has stated he believes it is the most haunted hotel in the UK, experiencing paranormal activity in the hotel. He once claimed to have spotted the apparitions of naval officers in the Sefton Suite, which is a replica of RMS Titanic’s First Class Smoking Lounge, built by the same White Star Line craftsmen who built the ill-fated ship. One of the ghosts he spotted was reportedly the commander of the famous liner, Captain Edward Smith.
2. The Schooner Hotel, Alnmouth, England

Hot on the Britannia Adelphi Hotel’s heels is The Schooner Hotel in Alnmouth, Northumberland. Numerous paranormal investigators have paid a visit to the hotel over the years and confirmed ghosts do roam the hotel. It has an official list of 60 spirits and has had a reported 3,000 sightings. That’s a lot of ghosts!
The Grade II listed building was built in the 1600s, with the inn welcoming smugglers, murderers and vagabonds over the years. It was also the home to numerous suicides, murders and family massacres. One of the most haunted rooms within the hotel in Room 28, where most of the sighting and experiences have stemmed from.
Expect to hear the sounds of children crying, women screaming and to experience an overwhelming sense of fear. You have to be brave to spend a night here – but you can embark on a ghost hunt and investigation for just £25 per person.
3. The Kirkstone Inn, Lake District, England

The Kirkstone Inn is the third highest pub in England at 1,500 ft, offering magnificent views of the picturesque Lake District. The inn dates way back to the 15th century, and is believed to be not without its fair share of ghosts. Many ghosts are believed to be travellers who lost their lives when travelling the arduous mountain terrain.
Another ghost is believed to be a woman who murdered her own child, whilst another 17th century coachman ghost was once captured in a photograph taken by a family back in 1993; however, you won’t find him in the inn anymore, as he supposedly loved the family so much that he returned home with them.
4. The Mermaid Inn, Rye, England

You may have heard about The Mermaid Inn, as it once featured in the paranormal investigation TV show Most Haunted. The inn was renovated back in the 16th century, and over the years guests have reportedly spotted ghostly figures walking through walls, as well as rocking chairs inexplicably rocking and the spirits of maids.
5. Ostrich Inn, Slough, England

The Ostrich Inn has a rather spooky history. Way back in the 14th century, the inn’s owners, known as Jarman, would ply guests with alcohol before inviting them to stay the night in their “special” room; however, their guests were then murdered by the owners in their sleep, thanks to a secret trap-door in the room. After committing 60 murders, the owners were later caught and hanged for their crimes.
The spirits of the victims are believed to have remained inside the inn. Don’t worry, the current landlords are much more welcoming, and will even provide a guided tour of the inn.
6. Airth Castle, Falkirk, Scotland

Airth Castle is one of the most historical buildings in Scotland, and also one of the most haunted. Many have claimed to have seen many ghostly apparitions over the years, and the sound of children playing can occasionally be heard when the rooms are empty. There’s also supposedly a phantom dog that likes to nip at guests’ ankles.

You will find London’s The Langham Hotel just off Regent Street, which is a popular haunt for ghost hunters. While the hotel may have a rather luxurious design, that does not mean things can’t go bump in the night.
Spooky happenings have been happening in the hotel for a while now, keeping international guests awake at night, including celebrities and ordinary guests. The paranormal activity dates back to 1973, when James Alexander Gordon, a BBC announcer spotted the ghostly apparition of a Victorian gentleman at the end of his bed. Stuart Broad, a tests series bowler, even stated he had to move rooms when the lights in his room unexplainably switched on and off, and the bathroom taps turned on of their own accord.
8. The Ancient Ram Inn, Wooton-under-Edge, England

The Ancient Ram Inn was built in 1145 and is thought to be home to 20 ghosts who love nothing more than tormenting paying guests. You can stay in the inn, which is built on an ancient pagan burial ground, for between £25 to £30 per night.
Just some of the spooky happenings at the inn include a child’s blood-curdling scream, invisible touches and electric wooden beams. One of the scariest moments was when guests have been forced to flee in the middle of the night, as furniture flew around the bedrooms and the apparition of a little girl walked the hallways.
9. Dunkenhalgh Hotel, Lancashire, England

Many witch trials once took place in Lancashire, resulting in the death of ten women and children. Paranormal investigators are happy to take visitors on a seance on Pendle Hill, which is where the witch sorcery allegedly took place.
Once the seance is over, guests will return to Dunkenhalgh Hotel – which is where a young woman supposedly drowned herself, and whose apparition has occasionally been spotted.

When darkness falls, the ghosts come out in this historic building that was built in 1503. The ghosts include a Canadian airman who fell to his death in WWII. You may also spot the former owner of The Golden Fleece, who is partial to a bit of spring cleaning.
